Helping Out
IRC and Mailing List
The mailing list is the best place to start if you would like to help with the project. This is where usability issues and solutions are discussed in order to get peer feed-back. If you want to become more familiar with the project and what were doing, this is where to start.
Issues and ideas which require more interaction than a mailing list can be discussed on IRC by connecting to irc.freenode.net and joining #kde-usability.
KDE Human Interface Guidelines
Many developers and maintainers forget about the usability aspect of an application, or simply give it a low priority -- then it is of a big help to remind them. Making sure the Guidelines are followed, is one the best ways to help on KDE's usability front.
How is this practically done? First of all, it is a good idea to read the Guidelines from start to end, and then specialize on one section or paragraph and know it to the bone -- people who are good on one area and systematically and robustly pursues it, achieves great things.
If you are interested in contributing to the KDE HIG, check out its project page on OpenUsability.
Usability Testing
Issues found during testing of an application can be filed at bugs.kde.org. File issues as a bug, not wishlist. Usability problems are bugs.
If you have experience writing usability reports or conducting user testing, your help is greatly appreciated. We are currently working with OpenUsability.org to come up with standard reports for user reporting. We recommend using these guidelines to create reports, however independent reports are also welcome. For more information on report writing, please visit OpenUsability.og.
